Antiquing in Aberfoyle
Whether you love antiques or are simply looking for something different to do on a Sunday afternoon, the Aberfoyle Antique Market is worth a visit.
With more than 60 years in business and over 100 vendors, there is plenty to explore. The market has both indoor and outdoor spaces, making it easy to spend a few hours browsing and seeing what catches your eye.
You’ll find a little bit of everything here, from vintage clothing and lighting to furniture, artwork, figurines, dishes and cookware. There are also records, books, collectibles, and plenty of one-of-a-kind pieces you won’t find in a typical store.
Part of the fun is never knowing what you might come across. You can go in looking for something specific, or simply wander through the stalls and see what treasures you discover along the way.
As new homeowners, we’ve really enjoyed exploring Aberfoyle and finding unique pieces to bring into our home. One of the things I enjoy most about creating a collected style is that it happens over time. Instead of buying everything at once, we slowly find pieces that have meaning, that we love, and that feel right in our space.
If you’re planning a visit to Aberfoyle Antique Market, here are a few things to keep in mind:
Dress for the Weather
The market is a large space to walk through, and many of the vendors are outdoors. Comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing will make your visit much more enjoyable.
Bring Cash
Some vendors accept e-transfer, but very few take credit or debit cards. There is an ATM on site, but bringing cash is your best bet.
There is an Admission Fee
Parking is free, but there is an entrance fee to the market. Regular Sunday markets are $5 per adult, while the special Saturday shows are $10 per adult.
Check the Special Show Dates
Aberfoyle hosts two larger special shows each year—one in the spring, usually around June, and another in the fall, usually in September. These events bring out even more vendors and visitors.
Arrive Early
If you’re attending one of the special shows, getting there early is well worth it. Hundreds of people can attend, so arriving early makes parking easier and gives you a better chance of finding those special pieces before they’re gone.
Come Hungry
There are several food options on site. The Kitchen is a small restaurant with indoor seating, and there is also an outdoor coffee vendor and a hot dog stand. During the summer, you’ll find an ice cream vendor, and the special shows sometimes feature extras like kettle corn and lemonade.
Dog Friendly
Aberfoyle Antique Market is dog-friendly, so your well-behaved four-legged friend can join you for the day. Just be aware that some vendors do not allow dogs inside their booths, which is usually clearly posted.
And even if you leave your own pup at home, you’re likely to see plenty of other adorable dogs while you browse!
Aberfoyle is the kind of place where you can easily spend a few hours browsing, chatting with vendors, and seeing what catches your eye. You may go looking for one particular item and leave with something completely unexpected, but that’s part of the fun.
